Mozart's concertante

This last weekend in June the La Coda Orchestra will give a sumptuous concert at the Institute ofgnaux (50) directed by Dominique Debart.

We will focus on Mozart's Concertant Symphony in an original transcription by Thierry Besnard for this orchestra and of course the soloists of the Ensemble Classique Briovère composed of Dominique Martin on flute, Olivier Gourlay on oboe, Eric Metge on horn and Fabrice Gourlay on bassoon.

In addition to his career as a musician, Thierry Besnard is indeed active as an arranger. He regularly transcribes works for different instruments. The transcription of Mozart's Concertant Symphony required more than six months of work.

This symphony was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the late 1770s for symphony orchestra, solo violin and alto solo. It consists of three movements. The original score could not be found.
But what is a transcript?

A transcription may involve changing the key to the music, adapting notes to play on another instrument, and rearranging the parts to preserve the spirit of the original work.

Transscribing a score can be a complex process, especially if the original work is intended for a very different set of instruments. This requires a good understanding of the musical theory and the technical capabilities of the instruments involved.

Although the aim is to remain faithful to the original work, transcription may also involve some creativity to adapt the music so that it sounds well on the new instrument or together.

Playing, teaching, transcribing, directing is the life of a music enthusiast in general, clarinet in particular.
